Weekly Sculpture 1 John Bartell
It’s been
awhle since I’ve taken 3-D art with Keisuke (three years, I believe), so I’m
sort of rusty with using the workshop. I
was actually sort of nervous using the tools again – so I didn’t. So I suppose that was part the emulation of
the minimalist spirit of Tuttle’s work…
The idea
came to me when I remembered that I had several pop cans in my car I hadn’t yet
disposed of this past weekend, so I decided to intergrate those into the media
(I’ll admit it – I’ve used trash in a lot of my pieces). However, when I actually had the material in
front of me, I wasn’t sure how to move forward with the project. I experimented with the aluminum (you may
have noticed it when I started ripping the cans apart) and made my canvas out
of some cardboard and a wooden square.
I came in
this past Sunday (January 18, 2015) to put in some more work on the piece. I intended to use the acrylic, as it dried,
to act as a glue for when it dried, and settled on the shape I wanted my
creation. A flower. That did not go well, and I suppose it looks
like diseased banana peels.
Hopefully
my works will look better in days to come.
